Clear Conditions.

Summer conditions continue. Crystal clear clarity dictate stealthy measures are in effect. Long leaders, quiet wading, pin point casting accuracy and plenty of patience for the dry fly game. In fact it's the only game we are playing now. Water temps in most areas are too warm to consider. Others are reasonable. We measured readings from 68-62 in the waters this week. Mornings being the coolest. Some of the small streams we fish on are still coldest. Every cool night makes  a dramatic effect on the system. The thermometer doesn't lie. If it's 70 or above go elsewhere.

Dry patterns of note lately have been the X Caddis, X2 Caddis, Fuzzface, Doublewing, Rusty spinner, Lime Lacewing, Lawson's Beetle, Cripple Cricket, Yellow Sally CDC and CDC Micro Caddis.

Hatches have been short and intense. Break that code quickly and cover every rising fish well and fast. Happy hour is not an hour now. It's a cheap bar that has watered down it's drinks and has run out of wings.

We are still on the half day wade plan until September. Fine with us. Refining casting techniques and mends. Headhunting with stealth. One of our favorite aspects of the game. Other trips are filling in as the season progresses. Fall bookings are coming in weekly. If you are thinking about a fall trip start now. This season will end quicker than you think. Drift boat instruction and spey casting introduction classes are booked for August. Great time to get some knowledge. Our West Branch spey trip still has space and is one of the highlights of our season. The Maine Huts and Trails fly fishing school in September is great option for the novice. 

Set the alarm for an ungodly hour, pack a headlamp, 5X Flouro, dark roast and get some summer.
